    My mother just picked up a “smart watch” about a week ago. Just a little plastic strap that claims to count the calories she’s burned. I didn’t even realize things like these existed, but it’s a really nice alternative to the pedometers of yesteryear! Certainly more fashion-forward, too. But like you said, a good old treadmill is plenty for me.

    Seems so obvious but I had no idea that your heart rate impacts how intense your workout should be! I’ll definitely be purchasing a monitor to help motivate me to stick to my new years resolutions. I really want to purchase a treadmill but I can’t fit one in my tiny house, so I guess I’ll have to stick to outdoors running for now!

    Good tips! I did a little experiment with treadmills last year, with the oddest results. I normally run outside, but last year I found it easier to just go by the gym at school after or before class and run on the treadmill. It took some getting used to. On the treadmill, I succeeded in some pretty far distances (far for me haha), ones that I had never been able to achieve during my outside runs. When I went back to running outside, I found I still couldn’t do that same distance! Was it just mental? I don’t know. But it definitely helped me stay in shape during the “frigid winter” last year, and I was super proud of myself!
